Kingsway GP Surgery… ctd
Wednesday, February 27th, 2008Following on from my 1st post on the subject (here), Cllr Hall kindly sent me this:
Kingsway/Quedgeley briefing
Jan 8th 2008
Background information
Primary Care
3 practices provide services to the area, Dr Siva (single handed), Pavillion (St James Branch) and Rosebank (Severnvale Branch). St James and Dr Siva have at times closed their list to new patients as they say they are running out of space.
Currently St James are saying that their list is closed. Patients who contact that practice are being informed to have a GP allocated to them via the Family Health Service Team at Victoria Warehouse.
The PCT is reviewing plans to provide additional space at the St James surgery and the commissioning cluster have asked both practices to keep their lists open.
Severnvale are continuing to accept new registrations.
- The developers on the Kingsway site are required to provide land community use (shops, health centre etc) by a covenant once 1000 homes have been occupied. Current estimates are that 650 are now in occupation, although a lot more than this number have been built.
- The housing mix is approx 30-40 social housing.
Since the PCT issued the last press release the PbC cluster have worked through and agreed an outline estates strategy for the whole city.
Rosebank Health being identified as the primary care contractor to operate new premises on the Kingsway site. The same partnership already have a surgery on the Quedgeley health campus and are taking the new referrals from Kingsway now.
They are looking to move into temporary premises as soon as a suitable site is found.
The PCT estates team has begun discussions with the developer to identify either a location for a temp building or to rent a show home from the developer until a permanent surgery has been built.
In terms of looking at provision at St James surgery, the PCT may be able to relocate some of the countywide services currently provided at the Quedgeley health centre so that St James can move in and expand.
The long term plan is under review. Although the developer is required to provide land, there are a number of issues with this proposed site (cost, access and proximity to the Hunts Grove development if that goes ahead). The cluster preference (and that of the practice) would be to develop a poly clinic facility closer to the centre of the combined development. This would make more long-term sense. However, until the planning enquiry has been completed the PCT will plan for a solution with and without the Hunts Grove development.
Councillors Surgery
Jackie Huck (Deputy Director of Commissioning) and I attend Jackie Hall’s surgery on Dec 15th to meet any members of the public who dropped in. About 10 members of the public attended. The main concern that was expressed was about the need to improve dental access, communicate regularly and ensure that services were close to bus routes.
The PCT agreed to communicate regularly on developments.
