Kingsway Rubbish Bin Collections and Recycling

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

It occurred to me that refuse collection days might change during the Easter bank holiday weekend at Kingsway, so I went looking for information.

According to the Gloucester.gov.uk website, although collections are a day later for most bank holidays, they will take place as normal on Good Friday.

I found the following useful resources on that site:

Look here for confirmation of bank holiday arrangements.

Look here to find the normal collection days for your street (including garden waste collection).

Look here for the A-Z of what you can recycle (and where).

Problems with Builders and Construction Traffic

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

It seems that many Kingsway Village residents have suffered some bad experiences with local builders, as you can see if you look through the comments for this post.

Particularly useful is this comment from carpo18mav who seems to be suffering more than most and has posted details of who to contact for problems and complaints.

So - if you are having problems with the builders and you can’t get anywhere by being pleasant, please take her advice and follow it up with QUVL or the City council via the telephone numbers or email links supplied.

I have to say that we’ve personally been fairly fortunate with builders. I know that many of my neighbours along Thatcham Avenue have had problems with construction traffic but we personally don’t use it (parking at rear) so we have no real axe to grind…

I did ask them to help publicise the website through their “welcome packs” and links from their websites, but I didn’t get a reply… (You’d think it would make a nice selling point for them - I know some potential buyers from all over the UK have found the site, because we’ve had ‘phone calls from some of them asking about the area and looking for directions - but there it is, lol)!

Anyway, do please feel free to add your gripes to this post and be sure to follow them up :)

Also please help us to get the word out about this site. I still haven’t been able to leaflet the Village (I don’t think my legs would stand it at the moment… I can’t wait until the Kingsway Surgery opens so I can finally visit a Doctor who has time to sort me out - lol).

Suggest a name - Win a bike!

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

We need to choose a name for the new school that will tell people what we are all about. The name could reflect the local area, or the history of the area, or something to do with an exceptionally good education. The possibilities are almost endless.

With such an exciting building design, we need an imaginative school name and logo to really make us stand out.

We want a badge or emblem that is distinctive and unique to the school. Something that says this is the new school at Kingsway, or this is where our children’s education really begins to fly. It’s the idea more than anything, a good idea that can be turned into a finished product from a clear sketch. We will pick and choose to get the best possible combination.

Some suggestions so far have been a logo that incorporates a ‘flight’ theme – perhaps a plane doing a loop or a hot air balloon. The school name will need to be short but snappy and yet reflect the area and community. I am sure we will have some truly original ideas and a hard job choosing between them.

Entries will be judged by the schools governing body and a representative from the developer, Quedgeley Urban Village Limited (QUVL). The prizes for both competitions will be provided by QUVL. First prize will be a mountain bike!

Good luck everyone!

Suggestions for names and designs for the logo should be sent before 31st March to:

Councillor Julian Powell, Chair of Governors, New School at Kingsway, c/o Quedgeley Parish Council, 9c The Old School House, School Lane
Quedgeley, GL2 4PJ

Or

Rob Reid, Children and Young People’s Directorate,
Gloucestershire County Council,
Shire Hall, Westgate Street, Gloucester, GL1 2TP
