Builders Application for Extended Working Hours
Saturday, May 10th, 2008Yesterday, we received a letter from the City Council to notify us of an application to extended the current working hours for the builders. We presume everyone did too
They have applied to extend their hours to 7.30am - 7pm, Monday to Saturday… This application applies to the whole of the Kingsway site.
Our concern is that the builders are already in breach of the current times set for working hours (8am-6pm), so what will happen if they are extended further?
We regularly have vehicles (both delivery and workers) making lots of noise outside our house; this noise can start as early as 6.30am. If their hours are extended, does this mean they will start at 6am?
Why do they need to extend these hours if they don’t work much past 4pm anyway? Surely if they stuck to their original hours, and actually did a full working day, they wouldn’t need to apply for more hours! Hopefully the warmer weather is here to stay, so we will all be wanting our windows open. Do we really want to be woken by noisy lorries and fumes at 7.30am or earlier? We don’t have an issue with the other end of the day, as long as they do stop noise at 7pm, so children can get to sleep without a digger shaking the house and disturbing them.
We shall be submitting comments to the Council to object to the application. We are hoping that others reading this feel the same way and will also object. Objections must be received by the Council before Tuesday 27th May 2008.
Here’s hoping the application wil be refused and we won’t be woken early!
