Dangerous and Nuisance Motorbikes

Friday, September 16th, 2016

Hi,

I am a resident of Farnborough Close and am getting sick and tired of the constant motorbikes using the cut through between Kingsway and Tuffley.

This is not only just during the day but is all hours of the night as well.

Within the last few weeks the level of motorbikes has increased. The worst case I have witnessed only last week was of someone on a scrambler bike with no registration and wearing a balaclava to hide his identity.

This is not only a nuisance but is a danger to members of the public.

All that needs to be done is either the barriers to be made narrower or a camera installed to catch the culprits.

Could someone please give me some advice as to who I need to speak to. Is it the highways agency, police or the council?

Many thanks

Jeff

    Jeff,
Apologies for the really slow response, I’m always missing things on this forum. I’m also a Farnborough Close resident and have similar issues with the motorbikes (and also now the illegal pedal bikes with engine alterations).

Anyone driving across that bridge has to mount the pavement, this is an offense and the police can do something about it, they also told me even if they got off and push the bike over it is still an offense. I have reported incidents before, the response however is very inconsistent. I reported a number of bikes 18 months ago and got an acknowledgement but no real action, then about a year ago the police had a crackdown on antisocial mopeds and they were a bit more interested. I gave them photographic evidence of offenses and they issued (can’t remember the exact codes they used) a number of notices to the owners, I think if they offend again within 6 months their vechicles can be seized. This had a big impact which lasted a number of months before the number of bikes picked up again. Since then the number of bikes has increased dramatically and I made another report 6 months ago, unfortunately the sergeant from last time had moved positions and I was back to someone who didn’t seem overly interested and I heard nothing after I sent in more evidence. I always get the feeling I’m just creating work for the police and they’d rather I didn’t.

There are other things that cannot be done because of the road adoption status, there used to be a large “no vehicle” sign attached to the fence, but when they altered the bus root temporarily and briefly took the fence away, on it’s return it started to fall off until it eventually disappeared. I reported this but the government department couldn’t put one back on because of the adoption status. The police did put those triangular signs up on the street lamps after my first report was successful though.

I used to record the plates and times of anyone I saw cross the bridge in a book as evidence but the lack of interest from my last report has caused me to take a break from this, but if you get anywhere with your complaints and need some evidence to help out I could see what I can do.

    Hi Jeff,

I asked Joe Logan (KRA Chair) about this, he said:

I Believe that area is still owned by QUVL. Worth passing it on to the Police as they had been active in trying to deter that sort of thing and there are a number of signs there to that effect. The complainant could help by photographing events as that would help the Police.

    Regards,
    Clive
