Residents Association Resurrection Meeting
Friday, October 9th, 2009Folks
A brief note (which I hope to expand further) to say that I have booked a room in Kingsway Community Centre on Friday 23rd October at 2000h for a ‘resurrection’ of [interest in] the Kingsway Residents Association.
This meeting will have a simple Agenda:
The primary aim is to determine if there is enough desire to make having the RA worthwhile.
Secondly it is to determine what the mandate of the organisation should be.
Finally it is to set a date for an Election of officers and for people to volunteer for their names to go forward for submission for that election.
If there are more agenda items to add, please make a comment here.
Please come, and drag your neighbours along. The last time I did this, I was accused of only talking to one portion of the village. This was not the case nor the intention. Everyone, providing you live here in Kingsway, has as much right as anyone else to make your feelings heard (what we can do about it is another issue).
Cheers
Barry

Just to remind people about tonight.
We are in the Gladiator room (could be an apt name 😉 ) in the Kingsway Community Centre.
See you at 8pm if you can make it.

Hi HM,
Sorry to hear you won’t be able to make it Friday.
Thanks for the offer to deliver in your area. I’m sure we’ll want to take you up on it at some point 🙂

Zoning would be a good idea, I had a leaflet drop through my door, but I dont know if the person delivering was local to Holbeach Drive or not.
If not, then I would be willing to pick up any drops that need to be done for the whole length of Holbeach and its arterial roads.
BTW, apologies, but I am unavailable for the meeting on Friday.

Hi Miss_Lane,
Yep… It’s shocking how many hidden cul-de-sacs exist here 😯
Every time I leaflet the Village I find houses/roads that I missed on previous occasions 😆
We (The RA Committee) have discussed before the need for “area rep’s” to help out on these types of exercise. Hopefully - after Friday - we should be able to get more volunteers.
Sorry again for my lack of assistance, I had a short visit to the hospital today but have to go back in a few weeks, and my wife is still very poorly 🙁
I have managed to email a few local contacts and Councillors to try to drum up support.
Thanks again to you and to all who helped with the deliveries.

Hello Barry & Clive, Thank you for your comments!
To be honest I didn’t realise how many houses were here…so many cul-de-sac’s in cul-de-sac’s. Quite easy to get lost…especially in the dark! Delivering leaflets is very time consuming and I think if we were to do this again we should get at least 4 or 5 people to cover the area. Unfortunately I can now see that I am not going to be able to cover much more of Kingsway by myself before Friday. With the help of carpo18mav and Baz I think we have made a good attempt at it! Thank you.
Looking forward to seeing you all on Friday.

Hi MoGr,
I think that they are starting construction on the shops this month (aiming to finish around April) but I’m not certain that plans haven’t changed since I last heard that. I also heard that Sainsbury is no longer likely but - again - am not certain of "the latest"!
Baz,
I heartily agree: Well done to Miss_Lane and thank you so much for the leaflet campaign. I had one delivered just now and they look great 😀

Well done to Miss_lane for doing the leaflets and I hope some of you have seen them coming through your door. If you have and your happy with the details, please pass them onto a friend or neighbour on Kingsway who may have not got one yet.
When doing things like this, I am always amazed just how big the Village is when you start trying to find all the houses!

It is lovely to see the meeting attempting to resurrect the Residents Association.
Having just caught up on this site after an absence, there are many interesting issues that I am sure will not happen unless the residents start to become more involved.
The talk about access to Tesco’s would surely not be a problem if the Developers had stuck to their commitment to develop the local shopping area. Was I dreaming, did I not see early last year they were saying that there would be a Sainsburys here early in the new year? What happened?
I have lived here for over two years now and still resent having to either walk or drive to Tescos when I have forgotten or suddenly need something. How eco-friendly is that? I am sure that there are now more than enough residents to support local shops.
I am also tired of driving along unmade roads and grounding my car when I drive into my garage area every time I have more than two bags of shopping in the boot. So I endorse the endeavours of the meeting on Friday.
Thank you for arranging this.

Hi Folks,
It’s great to see so many offers of help.
Unfortunately, I haven’t had an opportunity to log in since Friday, so have only just seen these posts and sent the email details… Sorry folks 🙁
Hope to see you all on Friday 🙂

Hi carpo18mav - Thanks for your offer and yes that would be great if you could do some posting. I’ve only got about 1000 leaflets at the moment and I will get some more Monday. I’d be happy to drop some off to you if Clive lets me know your contact details.
I live in Marham Drive so will post around here and Thatcham Avenue and further up.
Suzanne - I see you live in Chivenor Way. Are you happy to post there if you have time?
Barry what area are you in?
October 16, 2009 at 9:26 pm
Sorry it’s taken a while to respond…couldn’t remember my password, so had to reset it, again! Myself and my husband are coming on Friday to support the association and we are keen to help. We can deliver some leaflets in the Lyneham Drive/Valley Gardens phase 1 section, if it helps. I’m happy for Clive to give you my contact details if you want some more post people! If not, see you next week.

Miss_lane and Suzanne, I am busy saturday morning with the NCT nearly new sale that is on at the Crypt School, but I will be able to help on Sunday if thats any good?
October 16, 2009 at 3:55 pm
Hi Miss_Lane,
Wow - Nice work… Thanks for that 😀
I have had some conversations with another lady (Suzanne) in Chivenor Way who is also keen to help spread the word.
Because of my personal circumstances concerning my availability over the next few days I’ve asked Barry to get in touch with her and try to coordinate the attempt to publicise the meeting (sorry Baz) so I’ll leave it to him to respond to you.
I also posted the meeting details on the Citizen website (linked from the other thread) so hopefully that will help to attract more attention.

Hi Clive & Barry,
Today I designed the pamphlets and will hopefully send them to the print department at work tomorrow. Ready for delivering over the weekend. I just hope this will attract more people to attend.
After having read the thread relating to David Taylor at The Citizen and the report in The Citizen it has made me even more motivated about the Village and it’s future, so I’m more than happy to be helping.
Clive - All the best for a speedy recovery!

Hi Miss_Lane,
Any help you can give would be very gratefully received 😀
This meeting has become even more important as it will be a good opportunity to discuss a “consolidated approach” to David Taylor at The Citizen (see this thread for details), to discuss some of the negative press coverage and rumours surrounding Kingsway Village.
Unfortunately - as I explained in that thread - I am in a difficult position right now and unable to do too much to help get the word out… So any help at all would be very gratefully received.

Hi Miss_lane, Firstly, thank you for letting me know, at least I now know I won’t be lonely 😉
I was hoping for this website/word of mouth/and hopefully getting the Citizen on board to publicise it somewhat.
Your probably right, not everybody will know about this site, though I do believe that a good proportion do, but anything that helps promote it is a good thing, so if you can make pamphlets then I think that would be a very good idea and I would be very grateful.
Barry

Hi Barry,
Just thought I would post a message to let you know that myself and my partner will be attending the meeting.
With regards to Clive’s message “I hope we can attract enough supporters to make it viable.” - How else are you advertising the meeting? Do you think everyone knows about this website who lives on Kingsway? I could always arrange some pamphlet’s to advertise this website and also advertise the The Residents Association meeting. What do you think?

Hi Baz,
Sorry for the delayed reply, have had some time off for illness recently, (so has Phoenix) and Angelina spent most of this weekend in hospital too 🙁
I have another hospital appointment set for Tuesday 20th but should be out in time for the Friday meeting.
Needless to say I am still keen to take part.
I hope we can attract enough supporters to make it viable.
The Residents Association was seen as a very positive thing by the BBC TV and Radio (and by many other organisations who have contacted us because of - and in support of - it), so it generates a lot of positive publicity for the village as well as providing a useful local resource for residents with issues.
