Kingsway Litter Pick (The Big Tidy Up)
Created by CliveFollowing the 2013 Litter Pick organised by the Kingsway Residents Association, and having received many enquiries from local folk about a similar exercise, I am pleased to announce that the City Council is working with Quedgeley Parish Council to hold a litter picking event at Kingsway on Monday 27th October at 9:30am.
The event is known as the Big Tidy Up (part of a Keep Britain Tidy campaign), and we are asking for volunteers to join us.
We will meet at 9.30am at Kingsway Community Centre. We will provide high-vis tabards, litter pickers, gloves and bags, and will arrange for the bags to be collected after the event.

If you wish to display a poster for the event, click on the picture for a printable (.pdf) copy.

Is the call about to go out for volunteers to meet up and to set about picking up the rubbish that has accumulated on some areas of Kingsway?
The empty areas on or around the Rudloe Drive/Thatcham Avenue junction are now an eyesore as is the cycle track across from ASDA’s.
This is a fantastic facility for our younger community and it’s such a shame that so many of them care little about where they discard their food and drink packaging. It’s aesthetically damaging to the immediate surroundings and sends the wrong message about our village, especially to anyone looking on from the road that runs alongside it, a road that happens to be on the “Park and Ride” route.
A final groan, a large BBQ set, well passed its sell by date, has been dumped on Rudloe Drive, so who now is responsible for its disposal? As a resident I care and many others will care too, I along with those that do look forward to joining you on clean-up day.

Hi ghdoug,
Great timing! I prepared the above post on Friday and was just awaiting some final details before posting it today! So I converted your post to a comment and added it here… I hope you don’t mind.
The KRA was planning to organise a second litter picking event soon, but we got wind of this one, so we decided to leave it to the Council(s) to organise it (they also have far better access to equipment and disposal facilities).
I’m a little disappointed that the litter pick event is planned for a Monday, but I will be attending (luckily I work at home). I hope enough local folks can make it along…
From what I’ve seen recently we have a lot of work to do
Regarding the BBQ set, you can report such incidents (problems with refuse collections, abandoned vehicles, noise complaints, flytipping or any other matter) to the Glos’ City Council online, using the form available here.

Morning All,
Clive… Without wishing to divert away from your directing residents to report certain items dumped within the village - why not have a chat with Sally, and discuss how even bigger items can be removed on the day too?

Hi Steve,
That’s a very good idea
I will let her know about the BBQ set. And if anybody else knows of any large items dumped in Kingsway anywhere, please post details here and I will speak to Sally at Glos’ City Council about getting them removed at the same time as (or prior to) the litter pick.
Nice to hear from you again buddy

I tried to get this resolved before these posts and got this “helpful” reply from Glos cc

Clive, Many thanks, the BBQ set, “wheels “n” all”, has walked, but goodness knows where.
I concur, Monday is not a good day. I can come along, fingers crossed for a good turn out.
Regards,
ghdoug

Barker77: That’s about typical
I’ve sent an email to Sally as Steve suggested and will let her know of any more I hear about here.
Let’s hope that we get a better response this time, or we’ll have to move all the garbage onto an adopted road instead
ghdoug: That’s good news

Well… I had a reply from Sally who said:

Morning All,
Sadly, but understandably - GCC could find themselves in considerable difficulty if they stepped-in and cleaned-up areas for which they are not legally accountable toward.
However, it was noted that QUVL (Andy Smith) did involve themselves in the previous major litter pick held within the village - providing their yard for collected waste to be stored before being removed entirely, and Andy Smith himself equally took part in the litter pick itself!
Hopefully, either Andy or QUVL are reviewing this discussion - noting the difficulties with collecting waste whilst the adoption question still hangs over large sections of the village, and steps-in as the managing group, and part of the villages promotion with Gloucester overall - joins all those wishing to be apart of the BIG tidy-up within Kingsway Village, and remove waste of whatever size in order residents - along with each major agency or local venture can promote a better way forward for everyone to enjoy!
