Parking Problems? Flame on…

Created by Clive

As usual, the subject of parking problems in Kingsway has been in the news lately (see
here for details)
.

This morning I received a telephone call from Rubia Dar of Flame Television (the makers of “Heir Hunters” and “Don’t Get Done, Get Dom”), who are currently making a new six part television series about neighbourhood issues.

Rubia said:

"We are interested in hearing from local residents who have had neighbour disputes over the lack of parking in the area.

The programme will endeavour to explore the difficulties and emotional pressures people can face over neighbour disputes. There is no pressure to take part and all information will be dealt with in confidence.

If you would like to find out more please contact [email protected] or call on 020 7 598 7277."

Yes, we all have parking problems here. but I seriously think that we should ignore this type of publicity. It will do nothing more than damage the reputation of Kingsway.

Do you really want Kingsway on TV? To give where you live more bad press? To be rubbished over what essentially boils down to lazy and inconsiderate parking? Something that can easily be sorted out with a few words to the people in question - not a problem to be televised on international TV.

    @PP:

“Yes, we all have parking problems here.”
Not all of us. Many residents don’t have any personal parking problems; and many of those residents are quite dismissive and unsympathetic towards those who do have problems.

I seriously think that we should ignore this type of publicity.
You’re perfectly entitled to ignore it… just as others are entitled to make up their own minds.
There’s no doubt that the parking in Kingsway is insufficient and pretty soon the Council will be our only hope for a solution. Publicity will be pretty handy then!

It will do nothing more than damage the reputation of Kingsway.
What makes you think this would damage the reputation of Kingsway? Last time I checked the Press, our reputation wasn’t looking too clever. Perhaps this would improve things!

Do you really want Kingsway on TV?
This isn’t about what I want.

To give where you live more bad press?
    Already covered above.

To be rubbished over what essentially boils down to lazy and inconsiderate parking?
You make a sweeping statement like that and accuse me of damaging the reputation of Kingsway! On the contrary I would say that it “boils down to” there not being sufficient parking provision for residents and visitors.

Something that can easily be sorted out with a few words to the people in question – not a problem to be televised on international TV.
The reason why the TV company are interested is because this is not being handled the way you suggest. It’s creating Police incidents and inflating our crime stat’s, which is in turn allowing local press to accuse us of being a high crime area. Perhaps it’s time for a new approach!

I removed your last paragraph because - apart from being aimed at me personally - it added nothing new to your comment. I don’t mind the criticism, in fact I was expecting it (see article title - a double entendre), but it should add to the conversation or what’s the point?

I fully take on board the view that we don’t need any more negative publicity here, but the fact is that we are getting negative publicity about local crime stat’s when in fact the majority of local police incidents are about disputes over parking problems. I’d far rather we get a reputation as an area where insufficient parking is creating neighbourhood disputes than an area with “high crime rates”.

    Afternoon Clive.

Oh dear, with all your quotes I think you sound a little upset!

I think you removed my last paragraph because it suits you and nothing else - it wasn’t all insults, but we will never know now will we?

I don’t think this a good idea that’s all, to air our problems on TV.

  4. Clive Says:

    Hi PP,

I wasn’t upset, I just answered your points as you made them and used quotes to assist readers.

I still have your last paragraph in my logs so I know what it says.

I accept your opinion about airing our problems on TV and I tend to agree as it happens, but I also feel that there are many arguments to the contrary and as it’s ultimately a personal decision, I saw no reason to refuse Rubia’s request.
